How much does an AI receptionist cost in New Jersey?

By Connect Helm ·

An AI receptionist costs anywhere from about $299 a month for a self-serve software plan to a few thousand a month for a system that someone builds, connects, monitors and reports on for you. The range is that wide because those are three different purchases that happen to share a name. Here is what each one costs, what it includes, and what still lands on your desk.

Three ways to buy, and what each actually costs

OptionTypical monthly priceWhat you getWhat you still do
Self-serve AI software (Dialzara, Goodcall)About $299 to $599 for base plans; higher tiers reach $1,000 or more as call volume growsAn AI agent you configure in a dashboardWrite the script, connect the calendar, test it, notice when it breaks
Human answering service (Ruby, Smith.ai)About $250 to $2,100, priced by minutes or calls includedPeople answering in your name during set hoursHand them scripts, pay overage, re-key leads into your own system

The software and answering-service figures come from the vendors' public pricing pages as of October 1, 2026. Plans change, so treat them as the shape of the market rather than a quote.

What moves the price

  • Call volume. Every option gets more expensive as calls go up. Software adds per-minute or per-call charges; answering services sell bigger minute bundles; a managed build sizes the system to your busy season, not your slow one.
  • Locations and lines. Two offices with two numbers and two calendars is more than twice the setup of one.
  • What has to be known before a booking counts. Service area, emergency or routine, insurance, budget, preferred time. Each question is logic someone has to write and test.
  • What it connects to. Booking into a real calendar and logging to a real CRM is where most self-serve setups stall. It is also where the value is, because a call that is answered but never recorded is only half saved.
  • After-hours and emergency routing. A no-heat call at 2am has to reach your on-call person. A routine call gets the next open slot. That split has to be built.
  • Who watches it. An agent that quietly stopped booking on a Tuesday costs more than any plan. Monitoring is either included or it is you.

The costs that are not on the pricing page

  • Your time. Self-serve tools are cheap because the configuration is your job. Price your evenings honestly.
  • Overage. Human answering services bill by the minute. A busy month is a surprise invoice.
  • Leads that never land anywhere. If the message goes to an email you read on Friday, the customer called your competitor on Tuesday.
  • A bad first call. An agent that pretends to be a person, or quotes a price you never approved, costs you the customer and some of your reputation.

The way to put all of this in proportion: price one job in your trade. A furnace replacement, a repipe, a new-patient exam, an initial consult. If the agent books one job a month that voicemail would have lost, it has paid for itself at any of the prices above. Most service businesses that are missing calls are missing more than one a month.

Why Connect Helm does not publish a price list

Because every system is built around one business: your call volume, your locations, what has to be asked before a job is booked, and what it connects to. The AI voice agent comes in our Growth package, which adds it to SEO and CRM, and Full Service adds sales follow-up. We quote after one conversation about how your calls actually come in. You can see how the three packages fit together on the packages page.

How to compare quotes

  1. Does it tell the caller it is an AI assistant? Ours does, on the first ring, because a customer who finds out later stops trusting you.
  2. What happens when it cannot answer? It should stop guessing and hand off to a person or take a message, never improvise.
  3. Does it book into your real calendar, or write to a list someone has to copy over?
  4. Where does the transcript go? One record per customer in a CRM, or an email thread?
  5. Who monitors it after launch, and how fast do they know when it is down?
  6. What does the monthly report show? You want found, called, answered, booked and closed, not minutes used.

If you want to hear what a managed agent sounds like before you talk to anyone, call the demo line. It is the same agent that answers Connect Helm's own phone. When you are ready to talk numbers for your business, book a call and we will quote it after one conversation.
